Building Ohio’s Future Builders | Manufacturing Month Exposes Students to In-Demand Careers
CINCINNATI-AREA MANUFACTURERS WORK WITH LOCAL NONPROFIT TO SHARE JOBS POWERING THE REGION’S MANUFACTURING GROWTH
CINCINNATI, OH- AUGUST 24, 2026- The Ohio Manufacturing Association (OMA) reports Ohio’s manufacturing GDP as a whopping $137.9 billion. This massive industry is powered by tens of thousands of skilled workers- in fact, Ohio trails only Texas and California in the number of manufacturing jobs in our state. These jobs will only become more in-demand as the manufacturing sector grows.
That’s why local manufacturers are partnering with local nonprofit Advanced Manufacturing Industry Partnership (AMIP) on Manufacturing Month. This October-long effort pairs classes of middle schoolers, high schoolers, and college students with area manufacturers for facility tours and hands-on experiences.
Manufacturing Month gives many students their first hands‑on look at careers in engineering, quality control, and advanced manufacturing. “K–12 schools are shifting toward career‑pathway models, and real‑world exposure helps students see the high‑demand opportunities available in Southwest Ohio,” said Wim Huijs, AMIP President & Executive Director. He adds that Manufacturing Month should grow into a year‑round effort to close the “awareness gap” between education and industry and strengthen the region’s talent pipeline.
