What does your business create?

We fabricate and machine a variety of custom steel, stainless steel, and aluminum parts. These parts are used in a variety of industries including packaging & material handling, transportation & logistics, military, medical devices, capital equipment, consumer products, oil and gas and data centers.

What makes you proud to be in the manufacturing industry?

We are very proud to continue a legacy of manufacturing that started at the turn of the 20th century with several companies started by prominent Cincinnati families. This includes Murrer Tool and Die, Opitz Metal Stampings, Techni-Fab Metal Products and several other Cincinnati businesses that have formed the backbone of MWG. Although manufacturing has changed significantly over the past 100 years, we are excited to see the evolution of our company as we navigate the challenges of the 21st Century and continue to grow and prepare our business for the next century!

What is an example of a career path someone could fulfill at your company?

I will say that the last three owners of MWG have started out with the company as a QC Manager, Sales Representative and Cost Accountant. We take an immense amount of pride in our ability to “promote from within”. We are working hard to identify those people that have the capability and enthusiasm to take on larger roles within the company. We are looking for an “ownership mindset” that we can use as a foundation for managerial opportunities, while we provide specialized training to hone their leadership skills.

What roles of yours are most critical to meeting your production needs?

Our needs and bottlenecks shift and evolve over time. In general, as our business has evolved, we are always on the lookout for good welders. Or, more specifically, good people that want to learn how to be better at what they do. Recently we have placed an emphasis on how we can train up our welders so that we can hire entry level welders and provide a path for them to become a Level 4 Fabricator as they gain experience. Additionally, we are working to make sure that we have the best shop floor support by growing our engineering department. We currently have a great group of experienced engineers as well as a talented group of new hires.

What do you love most about the greater Cincinnati region?

If I had to pick one work it would be “History”. The manufacturing history that goes back to the founding of P&G as well as all the family businesses that grew up here in the 1800’s. From a culture standpoint, I feel that Cincinnati punches above its weight with the symphony, pops, and wonderful theater and concert options. And then of course you have the Cincinnati Reds…the oldest team in baseball. More recently, there is an entire ecosystem here that supports and helps grow small businesses in every industry from dot com and high tech startups, to manufacturing, and service based industries.

Now that I think about it…if I had to pick another word it would be “food scene”. Unbelievable, crazy-good options that seem to multiply every year…

Cincinnati is a great place to start a career, start a business, start a family and enjoy all that the city offers us!
